Carlton walked through the bustling festival reminiscent of the Renaissance.

Along the hillside, mage members set up camp with elaborate tents for the week long event. Torches dotted the landscape casting a buttery glow while the smaller tents and booths decorated the Glen offering wares and services from spells to silks to jewel encrusted wands and swords.

A wide array of flavors and aromas wafted throughout the main drag along with a variety of specialty drinks and brews for the revelers.

Magic games and challenges added to the fun. Witches and wizards wore colorful costumes with family crests.

Carlton spotted the young and beautiful Jasmine, the fortune teller under a bright red and gold tent with yards and yards of multi-colored fabric draped at the entrance.

Her silky black hair draped her shoulders, and her green eyes seemed to glow in the night.

He inwardly groaned at the thought of kissing her delectable lips as red as wine so full and sensual.

He watched as she hypnotically weaved a tale of enchantment to the mortals sitting in front of her.

Someone touched his elbow, and he turned. Another beauty looked up at him and smiled. “Jasmine is

beautiful. Are you Carlton?”

He replied, “And you are?”

“I’m Lavender, her cousin. Has Brody arrived?” Lavender wore a bright yellow empire waist gown with layers of sheer fabric flowing in the night breeze. Her hair piled high on her head with shimmering gold ribbons entwined between the strands.

“He and his men are still setting up camp. He’s told me a great deal about you. Brody is a good wizard, loyal and true.”

“I like you, Carlton. But a warning, Jasmine recently experienced heartbreak. But she’s looking forward to seeing you. Please, be patient with her.”

He clenched his fists at the thought of someone touching the woman he intended to mate. “What happened?”

She rolled her eyes. “I can read your thoughts. Nothing happened but her heart is broken just the same.”
“Excuse me.”
He glanced at the fortune teller’s tent. The mortals made an exit, and he entered, closing the fabric door behind him. He bowed before Jasmine, and she blushed. “Did you give them a true reading or one they needed to hear.”

Jasmine looked up and smiled. “One they needed to hear. Would you like a reading?”

“No, but I will pay for your time.” He reached into his side pocket and deposited several gold coins.

Shaking her head, she said, “I’m not taking your money. But I will take a hug. How have you been old friend?”

He swept her into his arms and hugged her tightly. She placed her head on his shoulder and began to cry. He lifted her chin with his hand. “Hey, what’s this? Why the tears? I thought you’d be happy to see me?”

Sniffling, Jasmine brushed away the tears with the back of her hand. “Let’s take a walk. There’s too many people with ears of bats around here.”

He chuckled and snapped his fingers. They reappeared at his camp with a tent fitted for a king. “Wine?”

“Carlton, I can’t be in your tent. It’s not proper.”

“I won’t tell if you won’t. Besides, we have complete privacy here. Please, sit and have a glass of wine with me. What may I do to help alleviate your sadness?”

She took a silver goblet of wine and lowered on a mountain of large cushions. “I fell in love with a mortal.”
“I really enjoyed reading Antique Mirror. It was quick, light, but with some suspense. Because it’s a short read, the suspense parts are minimal, but works well with the story. The pace is very fast, so there is never a dull moment. I happily give this book a 5-star rating! Highly recommended to those who like quick reads with a little suspense and romance.”

Angel and Demons Collide in Sandy’s Story (Ditch Lane Diaries 3)

Investigative reporter, Sandy Cothran follows a murder lead on Music Row which uncovers Luc’s Testament along with a string of related crimes.

Baldric is falling in love with Sandy breaking the rules of heaven and places her in danger because Luc is waiting in the wings to pounce at his given moment.

The Wards of Campbell Ridge fight with Heaven’s Warrior Angels in an epic supernatural battle against Luc and his demons to save one of The Chosen.

“D.F. Jones does it again. Definitely, a book you’ll want to sink your teeth into. So well written, great plot, and entertaining characters that you can’t help to fall in love. A definite page-turner. This Series had me at book one, and I couldn’t put it down. Each story brings you closer to each character, but this one was by far my absolute favorite. This book tells Sandy’s story. I love her. And Baldric, what’s not to love about him. This book is too good to give away too much so I’ll just say that if I were an angel, this book would have me sprinkling love dust all over the place. High five DF Jones. Remarkable Read!”

“This is the third book in the Ditch Lane Diaries. The first two books were good, but this one surpasses them. Don’t get me wrong; I love all the books. However, this book is my favorite of them all. The series follows the story of three friends; each book focuses on one. This is Sandy’s story, and my, what a story! It combines suspense, romance, and supernatural elements, creating an unforgettable tale.”

“The author wrapped up the series well and ties most of the loose ends. The book is well written, the characters were vivid, and the story was gripping and sucked you right in from the start. This is a story about powerful love, loss, family, trust, and good vs., evil. As the tale gets underway, it has you grasping for more. If you didn’t read the series, I suggest you start with the first book as each book is tied to the next one. Highly recommended!”

Thank you for the reviews!

A quick thank you for taking the time to read and post such wonderful reviews for Spinning Time!

As my thanks, I’m offering today, May 26 only, a Free Kindle copy of Spinning Time by D. F. Jones Expires at Midnight!

Here’s a few of the praise/reviews coming in for my new release:

“Author D.F. Jones Spinning Time is a fun read and a new departure from her previous books. I found her time travel romance to be inventive, fast-paced and enjoyable. Highly recommended!” Debbie Herbert, RWA 2017 RITA Finalist, best paranormal romance

“D. F. Jones has written this exciting adventure that you will not want to put down. That you won’t be ABLE to put down! What a delightful story. It was extremely well done going back and forth through time, giving you bits of information each time and building to a fantastic crescendo. The humans and aliens are highly developed and actually give you the feeling that you know them, that you have met them before, and you either really like them, or you really hate them. The action was fast-paced and didn’t end.

I highly recommend this book and this author to you. I found it to be really an enjoyable story, and I would love to hear more adventures of ATTRA in future books.” Catwoman1a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“I chose this rating because Ms. Jones has the ability to pull one into her stories and make you a part of the story. Even if you are on the sidelines and unable to help the characters.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a really good read.

I do not usually do spoilers but I really feel pushed to give all dog lovers that this story has an alien dog who has a character all of his own and I personally loved him.

I can not wait to read D.F. Jones next book.

This story was different than her Ditch Lane Dairies but as well written; I loved this story as much as I have her other stories.

ENJOY!!!!”

What’s up with Harlequin?

Rumors on social media and the internet states that Harlequin is longer acquiring titles for: Harlequin Nocturne, Harlequin Western, Love Inspired Historical, Kimani Romance, and Harlequin Superromance. (I could not find any official statement.)

I’m not sure how it affects the authors, and the employees of those Harlequin lines but my thoughts and prayers are with each one during the phase out.

Two years ago, after much research, I made an educated decision to add publishing to my eighteen-year-old media company, Jones Media. I had the desire to write fiction that I enjoy reading and with the ever-changing landscape of the book industry, I didn’t want my books in hands other than my own.

The closing of those genre lines within Harlequin reinforces my decision.

Self-published authors continually fight traditional publishing companies along with many agents, bookstores and libraries that keep indies from mainstream readers. To the readers, I’m an avid reader and the self-published talent is impressive.

I have an advantage over some authors. I have graphic designers, editors, and over thirty years of marketing experience to put behind my books.

Even with my experience, my paperback books will not see the light of day on a bookstore shelf because I choose not to sign a form saying I will buy back books. The NY rep with B&N, in all fairness, wanted my books but without the buy back form, her hands were tied. She stated they would be conservative in placement but as a business owner, I wasn’t about to risk having to purchase back 60k books. (FYI- My paperbacks are available with most booksellers online and signed copies are available at DFJonesAuthor.com)

That’s like selling thousands of an ABC car to dealerships then six months later the dealerships make the manufacturer of the ABC car buy back the cars! “New vehicles stay until they’re sold,” says Automobile Protection Association (APA) president George Iny.

Hastings Bookstores was one of the few SP author friendly stores in the USA, and they filed bankruptcy.

Based on my personal experience, E-books sales are 99 to 1 over print editions. That’s where I concentrate my marketing efforts.

Self-publishing with Amazon, Draft2Digital, Smashwords, etcetera, make it easy to upload a manuscript to the world but if you don’t edit properly, create an aesthetically pleasing cover, and most importantly, market your books, your titles will drown in an turbulent ocean of book titles where free and nearly free sales crest the top of the waves.

I love to write. Writing gives me joy but I’m also competitive enough to want to profit from my efforts. So I too use the free and nearly free book promos to attract readers.

As with any start up company, it takes time to build a loyal clientele.

My readership numbers keep steadily increasing, and my social media footprint along with loyal readers help spread the word about my books.

I like owning the Copyrights to my books. I love interacting and making friends with readers around the world.

It’s priceless.

I cannot imagine placing my trust into a company with my work and them doing away with the product lines. But hey, they did say to submit to the lines that they’re keeping, and like it or not, I guess that’s big business.
