Hands of the Healer by Allie Marie

Hands of the Healer: The Christmas Emerald (The True Colors Series Book 4) By Allie Marie

Clothiste’s Inn. Charming—or haunted?

Lt. Commander Kirby Lawrence, down-to-earth Navy physician, doesn’t believe the rumors of supernatural events or ancestral ghosts long associated with the newly-remodeled Bed and Breakfast. Even the discovery of old family jewels and a buried skeleton can be explained.

He may soon have to rethink his denial of paranormal activity, however. His heirloom emerald ring pulses and glows on his finger. And he can’t forget the image he once saw in an antique mirror at the inn. The face that stared back at him wasn’t his reflection.

Unexpected events thwart his every attempt to pursue answers. When he at last stands before the old mirror again, he comes face-to-face with his colonial ancestors in the midst of the American Revolution.

Trapped in an 18th century race against time, Kirby faces the deadliest troubles imaginable, unsure how he will return to his own time, or to the woman he left behind.

If he survives.

My Review

“His gaze remained locked on the shimmering mirror. The hands of the clock just below whirled backwards, passing each other over and over. The single peal seemed to last for minutes. The reverberation pierced his ears, the jangle coursing from his head to his feet. He thundered forward, hand outstretched to the ghost-like face he saw appearing through the vacillating glass.”

I love books with supernatural and time travel twists!

I read the Hands of the Healer: The Christmas Emerald (The True Colors Series Book 4) with anticipation and the author delivered with suspense, paranormal, and time travel with romantic elements.

Out of the four books, The Hands of the Healer is my favorite. I’m a huge fan of the author’s writing style, and how she’s able to evolve the characters, Stephanie and Kyle, Terry and Mary Jo from the series into the Kirby’s plot. The author detail descriptions of the family history and how it relates to events in America’s history thrills the most avid fan of genealogy. Me.

Personally, I would recommend reading the series in sequence. From the author’s debut novel, Teardrops of the Innocent, to the current novel draws the reader into a rich setting; a page turner.

I give the Hands of the Healer, five stars!

Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan

Book description

New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling book. One of the Top 100 Romance Novels of All time on Goodreads! Archer’s Voice is a full-length, standalone romance.

I wanted to lose myself in the small town of Pelion, Maine. To forget everything I had left behind. The sound of rain. The blood. The coldness of a gun against my skin. For six months, each breath has been a reminder that I survived—and my dad didn’t. I’m almost safe again. But the moment I meet Archer Hale, my entire world tilts on its axis . . . and never rights itself again.

Until I trespass into his strange, silent, and isolated world, Archer communicates with no one. Yet in his whiskey-colored eyes, something intangible happens between us. There’s so much more to him than just his beauty, his presence, or the ways his hands communicate with me. On me. But this town is mired in secrets and betrayals, and Archer is the explosive center of it all.

So much passion. And so much hurt. But it’s only in Archer’s silence that we might just find what we need to heal . . . and live.

My review:

Everyone reads a book differently, but it took me awhile to finish this book that has thousands of rave five star reviews. The author must have an incredible reader base or launch team.

The premise of the narrative intrigued me, but at times I felt like Archer was too simple. In the real world, some individuals with disabilities are more complex and quite often very intelligent than those without disabilities.

From a personal perspective I have two family members with hearing loss and damage which makes them acutely aware of their surroundings. Both are quite intelligent.

I enjoyed the book, and glad the author made Archer’s character evolve into a self-assured man who happens to live with deafness. He needs love and Bree loves him. Love makes the world a better place.

I would have like more backstory on Bree. She appears in town after a devastating experience with her father.

The author ties up the loose ends nicely so I’m giving Archer’s Voice four stars.

Happy reading!

Godless (Netflix)

Godless is a seven episode limited series. The cinematography is incredible.

The old west primary narrative is a feud between outlaw Roy, and his would be pappy, Frank, but it’s the women of Labelle that steals their thunder.

The series would’ve been better if they had focused on the women’s characters and left the men as secondary roles.

Merritt Wever and Michelle Dockery performances were outstanding.

The Sheriff McNue character meanders in circles.

Lots of violence.

It had so much potential, but overall, I give the series a B-.

Add secrets, treasure, and unimaginable heartbreak for an emotionally humorous read and discover why Dragons Don’t Cry.

This book contains adult situations.

My Review:

This is the first book in the series and first book I’ve read from D’Elen-McClain. I thoroughly enjoyed, Dragons Don’t Cry, a magical journey about a dragon’s one hundred year claiming to a feisty yet innocent bride, Acasia.

At first, Acasia is repulsed but she’s also intrigued by the Dragon. She finds out his secret and finds herself falling for him.

Bastian is tired of the curse. He’s sick of the never-ending cycle of life and loss vowing never to fall in love again.

The rituals and rules are thrown out the window as Bastian and Acasia’s romance blooms.

Shifters, Vampires, Dragons, and a Goddess add layers to the narrative as the storyline evolves.

Will Bastian give up his greatest treasure for love?

Well, that my friend, you must read for yourself.

Writing Myths: fact or fiction?

We take everyday experiences for granted in life when in fact those experiences are quite extraordinary.

I’m a Christ follower who enjoys developing and writing creative narrative into parallel or fantastical worlds so we may cheer for the right things in life and defeat the bad the ones.

While some individuals may surmise myths are make-believe, I see that myths associates with the truth.

Writing is merely an attempt to weave the divine truth into make-believe worlds.

I’m thankful for the chance. It’s brought many individuals into my life that I would’ve never met otherwise.
