Master from the USA Today Bestselling Impossible Series by Julia Sykes

Master is a standalone romantic suspense novel in the USA Today Bestselling Impossible Series by Julia Sykes

I’m hunting down the most heinous criminal I’ve ever encountered. The man known to us only as The Mentor abducts and tortures women. And now he’s set his sights on me.

My sexy new partner Reed Miller is determined to protect me, and he insists on staying close. Too close. His allure frightens me almost as much as the sadistic man who is stalking me. I have to trust him if we’re going to work together, but trust isn’t something that comes easily for me.

To save my life, Reed demands that I give him my heart.

Note: While Master is Book 6 in the Impossible Series, it can be read as a standalone romantic suspense novel.

My Review

Reed is brought in to work with Katie on the Mentor case. Mentor sets his sight of terror, fear, and intimidation toward Katie. The plot thickens with three possible suspects. Little notes left by Mentor let’s her know that he watches her every move.

Reed (love the name) vows to protect Katie who insists she can take care of herself. As the dynamic duo gets closer to the case, so does their relationship. Major heat, and I mean steamy, Fifty Shades heat, fires up the pages.

This is the first book I’ve read from Julia Sykes but not the last. I have to read the series. Her ability to weave a suspense yet passionate love story is a skill, and she nailed it!

Thank you for the reviews!

A quick thank you for taking the time to read and post such wonderful reviews for Spinning Time!

As my thanks, I’m offering today, May 26 only, a Free Kindle copy of Spinning Time by D. F. Jones Expires at Midnight!

Here’s a few of the praise/reviews coming in for my new release:

“Author D.F. Jones Spinning Time is a fun read and a new departure from her previous books. I found her time travel romance to be inventive, fast-paced and enjoyable. Highly recommended!” Debbie Herbert, RWA 2017 RITA Finalist, best paranormal romance

“D. F. Jones has written this exciting adventure that you will not want to put down. That you won’t be ABLE to put down! What a delightful story. It was extremely well done going back and forth through time, giving you bits of information each time and building to a fantastic crescendo. The humans and aliens are highly developed and actually give you the feeling that you know them, that you have met them before, and you either really like them, or you really hate them. The action was fast-paced and didn’t end.

I highly recommend this book and this author to you. I found it to be really an enjoyable story, and I would love to hear more adventures of ATTRA in future books.” Catwoman1a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“I chose this rating because Ms. Jones has the ability to pull one into her stories and make you a part of the story. Even if you are on the sidelines and unable to help the characters.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a really good read.

I do not usually do spoilers but I really feel pushed to give all dog lovers that this story has an alien dog who has a character all of his own and I personally loved him.

I can not wait to read D.F. Jones next book.

This story was different than her Ditch Lane Dairies but as well written; I loved this story as much as I have her other stories.

The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writer’s Guide to Character Expression Kindle Editionby Angela Ackerman & Becca Puglisi

One of the biggest problem areas for writers is conveying a character’s emotions to the reader in a unique, compelling way. This book comes to the rescue by highlighting 75 emotions and listing the possible body language cues, thoughts, and visceral responses for each.

Using its easy-to-navigate list format, readers can draw inspiration from character cues that range in intensity to match any emotional moment. The Emotion Thesaurus also tackles common emotion-related writing problems and provides methods to overcome them.

My Review:
The Emotion Thesaurus is an excellent tool for writers. It helps to jog the brain and kick in new action sentences during editing. I keep it handy during all phases of writing. Share this little nugget with your writing groups.

Flying Fearless by Karen Gordon

An amazing job, check.
An adorable apartment, check.
A super supportive best friend, check.

There’s only one thing missing from Vivienne Ramsey’s perfect life…

And after ten years of waiting the time is finally right for her to seduce her dream man. Tonight she’s going to wear Danny out in bed until he dies a happy man. But before she can begin her carefully crafted strategy of seduction he’s headed for the door. And for once in her over-organized life Vivienne doesn’t have a back-up plan.

If he had only read the memo about his part in her happily-ever-after.

Fearless Flying is the first book in The Vivienne Series–seven hilariously fierce and flirty chick lit novellas. If you like inspiring stories filled with relatable sexy, smart women then you’ll love this glass-ceiling smashing, worldwide journey by feminist fiction author, Karen Gordon.

My Review:

Flying Fearless Vivienne is an accomplished professional but lacks the confidence she desires in her social life. She is fun and witty with her best friend but is somewhat at a disadvantage with her old high school man crush she can’t seem to get over, Danny.

Danny is friends with her father, and he’s left in charge to watch out for Vivey when her Dad remarries and moves away.

Tragedy brings Vivienne and Danny together but life has other plans for them.

This is the first book I’ve read from Karen Gordon but it won’t be the last. I look forward to seeing where she takes this chick lit novella series.

Roadside by Angie Dokos

Zayne finds Serena’s lifeless body off the side of the road one morning. She has been beaten and left for dead. As she recovers, they become the best of friends. It doesn’t take long for Zayne’s feelings to grow stronger. Will the fear of ruining their friendship keep them from taking a chance on love?

My Review:
Roadside is a gripping tale of triumph over tragedy. Serena is a strong woman who fights through the physical, mental, and emotional violation of her body, and over time, the healing of her mind and spirit as the narrative unfolds.

This is the second book I’ve read from the author, and I enjoy how she allows the reader to organically unravel the plot.

Zayne is the hero in Roadside. He and his father find Serena’s lifeless body on the roadside. His tenderness, kindness, and compassion earns Serena’s trust, and the push and pull of their growing friendship evolves into a blistering attraction.
Will Serena and Zayne allow their friendship to develop into something more? That my friends, you’ll need to read for yourself.
Kudos, Angie Dokos!

What’s up with Harlequin?

Rumors on social media and the internet states that Harlequin is longer acquiring titles for: Harlequin Nocturne, Harlequin Western, Love Inspired Historical, Kimani Romance, and Harlequin Superromance. (I could not find any official statement.)

I’m not sure how it affects the authors, and the employees of those Harlequin lines but my thoughts and prayers are with each one during the phase out.

Two years ago, after much research, I made an educated decision to add publishing to my eighteen-year-old media company, Jones Media. I had the desire to write fiction that I enjoy reading and with the ever-changing landscape of the book industry, I didn’t want my books in hands other than my own.

The closing of those genre lines within Harlequin reinforces my decision.

Self-published authors continually fight traditional publishing companies along with many agents, bookstores and libraries that keep indies from mainstream readers. To the readers, I’m an avid reader and the self-published talent is impressive.

I have an advantage over some authors. I have graphic designers, editors, and over thirty years of marketing experience to put behind my books.

Even with my experience, my paperback books will not see the light of day on a bookstore shelf because I choose not to sign a form saying I will buy back books. The NY rep with B&N, in all fairness, wanted my books but without the buy back form, her hands were tied. She stated they would be conservative in placement but as a business owner, I wasn’t about to risk having to purchase back 60k books. (FYI- My paperbacks are available with most booksellers online and signed copies are available at

That’s like selling thousands of an ABC car to dealerships then six months later the dealerships make the manufacturer of the ABC car buy back the cars! “New vehicles stay until they’re sold,” says Automobile Protection Association (APA) president George Iny.

Hastings Bookstores was one of the few SP author friendly stores in the USA, and they filed bankruptcy.

Based on my personal experience, E-books sales are 99 to 1 over print editions. That’s where I concentrate my marketing efforts.

Self-publishing with Amazon, Draft2Digital, Smashwords, etcetera, make it easy to upload a manuscript to the world but if you don’t edit properly, create an aesthetically pleasing cover, and most importantly, market your books, your titles will drown in an turbulent ocean of book titles where free and nearly free sales crest the top of the waves.

I love to write. Writing gives me joy but I’m also competitive enough to want to profit from my efforts. So I too use the free and nearly free book promos to attract readers.

As with any start up company, it takes time to build a loyal clientele.

My readership numbers keep steadily increasing, and my social media footprint along with loyal readers help spread the word about my books.

I like owning the Copyrights to my books. I love interacting and making friends with readers around the world.

It’s priceless.

I cannot imagine placing my trust into a company with my work and them doing away with the product lines. But hey, they did say to submit to the lines that they’re keeping, and like it or not, I guess that’s big business.

Read Antique Mirror Free Today!

“I really enjoyed reading Antique Mirror. It was quick, light, but with some suspense. Because it’s a short read, the suspense parts are minimal, but works well with the story. The pace is very fast, so there is never a dull moment. I happily give this book a 5-star rating!”

Highly recommended to those who like quick reads with a little suspense and romance.”

Victoria is a budding artist who buys an old farm to renovate the old cabin and barn for her home and art gallery.

Days after moving in, she keeps noticing shadows from an antique mirror over the fireplace left by the previous owners. One evening after talking with her art dealer, Max, she’s relaxing in front of the fire when a man appears on other side of the mirror.

He begins to talk to Tori, and she’s drawn to him. Curious more than anything, she places her hand on the mirror and is pulled into another dimension.

Jonathan’s been living in the cursed mirror for over a hundred years, and Victoria is his only hope of escape, but the young witch Jasmine has other plans.

Will Tori and Jonathan’s relationship endure the test of time?

The Witches Curse

Jonathan gazed upon the face of his lovely bride while making love to her for the first time. Holding her in his arms until he reached the moment of ecstasy.

Mae gasped for breath and then her eyes rolled back into her head. She lay limp in Jonathan’s arms as he screamed her name.

He glanced up, and in the back doorway, stood Jasmine, the young woman he rescued from stoning. She pointed her finger at him–reciting words he couldn’t understand.

In an instant, Jonathan was cast into the antique mirror. He braced his hands on the inside of glass watching helplessly as Mae lay dead on the other side.

Jonathan pounded the glass and screamed, “Why? Why have to done this to me?”

Jasmine shook her head slowly as tears glistened in her eyes. “I’m sorry.”

The mirror clouded over, and he could no longer see the other side.

In disbelief, he looked about the cabin. Everything seemed the same but he knew it was different.

Jonathan ran out the door toward town. The moment he crossed his property line, he stood back in the same spot in the cabin.

He screamed again and ran to the back of the woods. When Jonathan reached the end of his property, he climbed over the barbed wire fence, and landed back inside on the cabin floor.

He sat and stared at the wooden walls in a state of confusion.

The rumors were true! Jasmine was a witch, and she’d killed Mae, and cast him into a mirrored existence of what used to be his life with no way to escape.

I’ll keep posting excerpts during the project!

Changeling by Debbie Herbert

Changeling: An Appalachian Magic Novel (Appalachian Magic Series Book 2) by Debbie Herbert, Author of Bayou Shadow Hunter, RWA 2017 RITA Finalist, best paranormal romance

She thought she was a witch . . . she’s more

Skye’s a young witch who sucks at spells and works at a metaphysical store, The Green Fairy. Strange things are happening there at night: black specks of movement out of the corner of her eye, mysterious buzzing noises, unidentified dragonfly-like carcasses in the basement, and a hidden cache of absinthe (aka fairy crack).

Kheelan is a human changeling. Raised with the fairies, he’s viewed as an inferior species whose only use is to serve his kidnappers. He’s been totally screwed by the Fae and his only goal in life is freedom. When he meets Skye, he sees an opportunity to escape. The last thing he needs is to be distracted by feelings for this quirky witch.

As Samhain, the witch’s Halloween, draws near she must make a bold move to claim her heritage and power, restore order in the fairy realm, and try to win Kheelan’s freedom and love. Absinthe, autism and augury meld into a paranormal cauldron where fairies are sly tricksters waiting to trap you in their Realm.

For fans of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series!

Although this is the second in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone novel.

Other Books in the Appalachian Magic series:

Book One: Charmed and Dangerous
Book Three: Charmed by the Salem Witch

Praise for Changeling:

“I absolutely adored this enchanting tale that blends Fae lore with the fascinating world of witchcraft in a coming-of-age story that will touch your heart with angst, humor, romance, and charm.”

“If there was a way to auto-sign-up to receive every one of Herbert’s books, it’d be done already. I LOVED her Dark Seas series and was SUPER excited to see what she had in store with this.

“Skye and Kheelan were immediately relatable and endearing in this coming of age story with magic and fairies. Watching sky to come into her own as a witch was charming. I was rooting for her from the onset, and her flaws, especially as a witch, made the story engaging and suspenseful.”
“This was a fast and fun read, highly recommended.” Top 500 Amazon reviewer
